7th Heaven (The Women's Murder Club)

Title: 7th Heaven

Author: James Patterson (with Maxine Paetro)
Genre: Fiction, Mystery, Suspense
Pub Date: Feb. 2008 (this ed: Apr. 2009), Grand Central Publishing
Trade Paperback, 376 pages

A terrible fire in a wealthy suburban home leaves a married couple dead and Detective Lindsay Boxer and her partner Rich Conklin searching for clues. And after California's golden boy, Michael Campion has been missing for a month, there finally seems to be a lead in his case - a very devastating lead.

As fire after fire consume couples in wealthy, comfortable homes, Lindsay and the Murder Club must race to find the arsonists responsible and get to the bottom of Michael Campion's disappearance. But suddenly the fires are raging too close to home.
Frightened for her life and torn between two men, Lindsay must find a way to solve the most daunting dilemmas she's ever faced - at work and at home.

My Thoughts

I must admit, I received a copy of 7th Heaven by James Patterson from The Hatchette Book Group some time ago, and am finally getting around to reviewing it. This book is a continuation of the Women’s Murder Club book series, composed of Sergeant Lindsay Boxer, crime reporter Cindy Thomas, Assistant District Attorney Yuki Castellano and medical examiner Claire Washburn, all of San Francisco.

If you have not read any of the books in this James Patterson series, I highly recommend that you do so. I am a huge suspense/thriller book and movie fan, so this one was right up my alley. Each chapter averages between two and two and a half pages, a quick and easy story with great twists and turns.

There are two storylines to this book. The first storyline addresses the restoration of the investigation into the disappearance of Michael Campion, the son of a former California governor who enjoyed near-celebrity status in the community. The case appears to be solid since, when questioned, Moon (prime suspect) not only confesses to the crime but provides the name of her accomplice. The trial is burdened with unexpected obstacles, antagonized by the media frenzy surrounding the case, and the peripheral storyline relating to a reporter covering it.

The second storyline focuses on whose murdering wealthy couples in their homes and then committing arson to the homes with the bodies inside.

Fans of the series are already addicted, and are sure to be pleased when they pick up the seventh installment. 7th Heaven is written well enough that it could stand alone from the series, so if you’ve never read the other books in the series, feel free to jump on board with this one. This is a swift and easy ready that may consume a good part of your day.

I really like this show.  I have always liked Andre Braugher since he was on Homicide: Life on the Street back in the 1990's and loved him in the movie Duets with Gwenyth Paltrow and City of Angels with Meg Ryan.  Ray Romano, who deosn't love him?  From Everybody Love Raymond, to his stand up comedy, and his role in the Ice Age movies, he has always been able to make me laugh.  Scott Bakula has been around for a while, but has never really had what I consider a big break, he is best known for his role in the t.v. series Quantum Leap.  Together these three actors really work, the show is advertised as a Dramady.  To me it is funny and relevant with everyday life and aging in general.

The topics they discuss gives some insight into the male bonding sessions, most men have.  Just like they are interested in what we women get together and talk about, we are just as interested in what it is they talk about when they get together.  This show gives just a little glimpse.  I hope this one sticks around for a while, because I really enjoy it.  It airs on Monday nights at 10 pm on TNT and you can also watch full episodes on the website.

Denise's Daily Dozen: The Easy, Every Day Program to Lose Up to 12 Pounds in 2 Weeks

Editorial Reviews

"Denise Austin practices what she preaches. Follow her positive approach for a better life." (Jack LaLanne, fitness pioneer on "Pilates for Every Body" )

"Denise Austin probably could motivate a statue. Her nonstop encouragement and exercise expertise form the perfect combination." (Chicago Tribune on "Jumpstart" )

"Denise Austin makes the Energizer Bunny look lethargic." (People magazine on "Jumpstart" )

Product Description

From Denise Austin comes the perfect health book for anyone who wants to live better but just can't seem to find the time. Much more than just another excercise book, Denise's Daily Dozen covers a whole range of health and diet related concepts yet manages it all in a no-stress, time-conscious program of 12's. At it's core, this book contains the minimum daily requirements to keep the reader flexible, strong and trim. Organized simply into seven chapters, which equal the seven days of the week, it covers a full week in daily allotments. Each day will have it's own focus from Monday being "fat burning day" to Sunday's "recharge and rejuvenate."

Denise has created a total body program, including a 7-day balanced meal plan that includes healthy recipes, and a workout that encompasses 12 exercises done in 12 minutes each day. Everyone can take just 12 minutes, at whatever time of the day works for them, and turn it over to these simple and fun exercises. Cardio, toning, yoga and breathing exercises...they're all here but in a way the maximizes effect while minimizing time.

Beyond a dozen exercises for each day of the week this book will include many other of Denises dozens for each day.
They say that good things happen in threes, but in Denise's Daily Dozen they definitely come in twelves.

My Review

So, how many of you have kept up with your New Years resolution to lose weight?  Well, if I have to be honest, I haven't even began mine.  But, with Denise's Daily Dozen, I'm sure it will be a lot easier in the exercise arena.  The book also includes a 7-day balanced meal plan that includes healthy recipes, as well as a workout that includes 12 exercises that can be done in 12 minutes each day.  This book is an easy read and one that makes exercising something easy to stick with

The book also includes her "daily dozen tips" on how to eat better for less and boost your energy. I have seen so many recent articles with Denise Austin and really can't believe that she is over 50 years old.  She looks like she could be in her twenty's.  Whatever she is doing, it's working, so I will be putting this book to great use for some time to come.

Denise's Daily Dozen: The Easy, Every Day Program to Lose Up to 12 Pounds in 2 Weeks is available for purchase at for $11.55 or from your local  retailer for $16.99.

One of my favorite daytime TV shows is The View. I have been a follower of the program since it began back in 1997. Although the hosts have changed over the years, the same outspoken opinions offered have remained. This program has always offered current information to their viewers and has tackled some tough subjects that others have chosen not to address.

Since I work during the day, I have to DVR the show and play catch up. But, when relaxation time comes in the evening, this is the first program I watch. It brings me current on the day’s events and happenings and I’m usually able to get a laugh from a comment by either one or two of the hosts. I have written for tickets on several occasions, but have yet to be lucky enough to be a “chosen one.”

So, I was oh so happy to receive the email below from Mom Central in my inbox today, which also offers the opportunity to become a ABC Ambassador which may help bring me closer to an up close and personal "View":

It’s rare that I have the opportunity to review something that I am certain is relevant to every person reading or visiting this blog, but this one falls right in that category. In order to read this blog, you would've had to have accessed the internet. This product is what you may, if not do need to keep you safe during your surfing adventures. If I haven’t mentioned this before, I am a huge tech fan. I get excited when new software and hardware is introduced in the market and love having the chance to put them through their paces. For the majority of my computer using lifetime, I have been a fan and user of one Symantec product or another, usually Norton Anti-Virus.  But as the hackers and cyber thieves have become more advanced in their techniques, I have had to add more security options to my computers. So, you can imagine my excitement when I was offered the opportunity to review and try out Symantec’s new software, the 2010 version of Norton Internet Security.

At the time I received this product to try, I had another manufacture’s security and anti-virus software installed on my computers. I had not been happy with it as it didn’t allow for the type of customization I desired or needed. But, it came with the computer so I continued to use it. So, you might be asking what is Norton Internet Security 2010? It is a security suite built to protect and enhance your internet safety. These are only some of the benefits you will experience by using this suite:

Easy to Install and Proactive HelpIt will even walk you through installing on an infected system

Provides InsightIt allows you to access a database of possible threats and files and the experience others have had before you.

Priase Worthy Anti-spam FilterIt filters all POP3 e-mail for spam and viruses and integrates with Outlook and Outlook Express.

Impressive Parental Controls - Is Web-based and you can manage it from any Internet-equipped computer.

Good in TestingIn testing by, it rated Norton to have caught 99.14 percent of malware from a collection of nearly a half million samples, with no false positives.

Thorough Malware Cleanup - Once Norton Insight has processed all files, the scan is capable of skipping any identified as "Norton Trusted."

Multilayer Malware BlockingSonar, Site Safety and Download Insight provide a triple threat of safety.

Minimal Performance ImpactThe new suite uses minimal system resources.

Trustworthy Firewall - It allows internet access for known good programs, deletes known bad programs, and keeps an eye on the behavior of unknowns.

Privacy ProtectionHas a 93 percent detection rate for verified phishing sites.

View-Only Network Map - Norton's network map allows you to view all computers on the network and remotely track the status of those with Norton installed.

Norton Internet Security 2010 gets an A+ in my book. The easy to control interface, enhanced level of detail, and speed in performance is what really makes it receive the “plus” in A+. It offers great protection right out of the box with its default settings, which makes it simple to use for basic computer users. There are tons of configurable settings and features inside to allow power users to tweak it, which is a real plus for me. This provides a complete set of security features to protect your machine, your identity, your kids, and your network from malware and other online threats. Symantec offers a free 30 day trial of the software on its site. It may also be purchased for $69.99 on the syamantec site after the trial period, with a one-year license that can be used to protect up to three computers. This works on Windows XP SP2 (32-bit), Vista (32 & 64-bit), and Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit).  You can also find this at Amazon for a lot less.

So, I guess you can see why you need this product; it addresses all your computer and internet needs in one nice convenient package. So, do you want to win one for yourself? One lucky winner will receive a Norton Internet Security 2010 one-year license, which can be used to protect up to three computers.

A social worker from New England . . . a Texas airline pilot . . . a homemaker from California . . . a lawyer who has lived everywhere . . . a quilter in Oregon. What do they have in common? All are on the adventure of their lives.

Like many others among the 77 million baby boomers, these men and women don't want to retire from contributing when they retire from their careers. So they are using their time, skills, and resources to make a difference. Written in conjunction with Finishers Project, an umbrella organization that encompasses more than 100 mission organizations, this book will help baby boomers discover a second-half adventure that fits them and counts for eternity.
My Take
This isn’t your typical book about retirement.  This book address the human side of things, it gets to the heart of the matter and the person.  I found this book to be a good read and interesting.  It made me think and reconsider how I originally thought about retirement.  Although, I am not currently at the age of retirement, it never hurts to think about it and make plans.  This book is not for you if you are looking for help in planning your retirement financially etc.  This book is written from a more spiritual standpoint and is about living a full and fulfilling retirement.  I enjoyed this book and will keep it on my bookshelf for when I can finally look forward to retirement.
