So, I think everyone is ready to see springtime.  Well, unfortunately we still have five days to go, but to get you in the mood with some bright colorful characters and a light and airy feeling, I have a review and giveaway for you and the little ones.

On March 2, 2010, Veggie Tales released its newest DVD, Pistachio: The Little Boy that Woodn't. This DVD is used to teach children the value of listening to their parents.

This DVD is the story of Pistachio (think Pinocchio), which like many other Veggie Tales videos, is another familiar story. Like Pinocchio, there is a toy maker, who carves the title character from wood, and just as in the original story, the character encounters several life lesson hurdles and lies just like Pinocchio.

Gelato (think Geppetto) had no children of his own, so one day he decided to carve a little boy out of wood. Gelato soon learned this little boy could walk, talk and have a mind of his own just like a real human child.

Just in case you haven't followed the previous Veggie Tales movies, each of them usually feature an intermission, which is the "Silly Songs" part of the show. This DVD's "Silly Song" is Office Supplies: Where Have all the Staplers Gone?

This video, as with other Veggie Tales videos are completely kid friendly. At the end of the "Office Supplies"  section  their is a part showing a "scary stapler" with big teeth that may frighten smaller children.  This DVD addresses great lessons for children, the main one being, 'listening to your parents is a good idea'.  Take a look at the trailer here to give you quick peak.

Bonus features on this release include an audio commentary with the production staff, a singalong version of "Where Have All the Staplers Gone?," an entertaining featurette which takes the viewer into a marionette shop to see the making of different kinds of puppets, Art Gallery, and a Discussion Guide.

In Pistachio, a take on Pinocchio which hit the store shelves just last month; Gelato had no children of his own, so one day he decided to carve a little boy out of wood. Imagine Gelato’s surprise when he learned this little boy could walk…and talk…and definitely had a mind of his own! When Pistachio tries to do things his way, he lands in a “whale” of a situation! Will he decide to listen to the wisdom of a loving father in time to save his whole family from becoming fish food? Find out in this all-new adventure with a lesson about the importance of family and learning to listen.

My niece fell in love with this movie, nothing could take her attention away from it and see was singing the songs the rest of the day.  To go along with this DVD there are also a few coloring pages and activity sheets which can be printed out and used with your children and the DVD.
