A part of being an active participant in the 21st century; which began on January 1,2001 and will end on December 31, 2100; is being overwhelmed and bombarded with all types of images and information, at an ever increasing rate. Almost anything you want to find information on or learn about is right at our fingertips, whether it be via the internet, cell phone or television. It is no wonder, that so many of us feel overwhelmed and tired. I know with the recent Spring Forward time change I have not been able to go to sleep before midnight, but I wake at 5:00 or earlier, where I would normally wake at 7:00am. I should also add, I loveeeeeee to sleep. There is nothing better for me as a person.

Well, I might have something that will help you, since it has begun to help me. I was given the opportunity to review a meditation CD by Suzanne Jessee, Mental Health Coach. Suzanne Jessee is a distinguished figure that has helped many women reduce the stress in their lives. She herself was once a victim of stress and panic disorders and after being hospitalized with depression she decided to do something about it! She became inspired to help other women that were feeling as she did. She started researching panic disorders and the prevention of panic disorders. She came up with Escape Anxiety which is made up of seven R’s: Relaxation, Realization, Re-education, Rehabilitation, Reinforcement, Responsibility, and Reassurance.

Take a look at her video

This CD is presented in two parts:

Part I
The Morning Time Cognitive Meditation and Imagery session is designed to help you start your day with a positive attitude about yourself and your life.

Within minutes of listening to your ME TIME Positive Day therapeutic session, you will have a positive frame of mind and be ready to greet your day with energy and optimism.

Part II

The Night Time Cognitive Meditation and Imagery session will guide you step by step into a physical and mental deeply relaxed state of being. You will then be guided to mentally lay the events of your day and the challenges of your tomorrow to rest so you can calm your mind and have a peaceful night’s sleep.

The CD is a combination of imagery meditation, self hypnosis and relaxation response. There are a total of three tracks, two with vocal coaching (morning and evening) and one without, beautiful peaceful music.

My Opinion:

Even if you are not a meditation type person, you should give this CD a try. It really does help you to have a positive attitude to start out your day. The evening meditation is something that you will find yourself able to easily adapt to, given the chance. Even if you don’t think you can benefit from this CD, I’m certain that you know someone that can. If you would like your own copy you can:

Buy it: Me Time, Positive Day – Peaceful Night may be purchased from Suzanne’s website for $19.99.

OR

Win it: One Desperately Seeking Deals reader will win a copy of Me Time, Positive Day – Peaceful Night.

Giveaway Rules – Your entry must include your email, if not publicly available in your profile. A comment should be left for each entry. You must complete the mandatory entries to be eligible for the optional entries. This giveaway will end at 10 pm pst on 4/16/10. So, I think everyone is ready to see springtime.  Well, unfortunately we still have five days to go, but to get you in the mood with some bright colorful characters and a light and airy feeling, I have a review and giveaway for you and the little ones.

On March 2, 2010, Veggie Tales released its newest DVD, Pistachio: The Little Boy that Woodn't. This DVD is used to teach children the value of listening to their parents.

This DVD is the story of Pistachio (think Pinocchio), which like many other Veggie Tales videos, is another familiar story. Like Pinocchio, there is a toy maker, who carves the title character from wood, and just as in the original story, the character encounters several life lesson hurdles and lies just like Pinocchio.

Gelato (think Geppetto) had no children of his own, so one day he decided to carve a little boy out of wood. Gelato soon learned this little boy could walk, talk and have a mind of his own just like a real human child.

Just in case you haven't followed the previous Veggie Tales movies, each of them usually feature an intermission, which is the "Silly Songs" part of the show. This DVD's "Silly Song" is Office Supplies: Where Have all the Staplers Gone?

This video, as with other Veggie Tales videos are completely kid friendly. At the end of the "Office Supplies"  section  their is a part showing a "scary stapler" with big teeth that may frighten smaller children.  This DVD addresses great lessons for children, the main one being, 'listening to your parents is a good idea'.  Take a look at the trailer here to give you quick peak.

Bonus features on this release include an audio commentary with the production staff, a singalong version of "Where Have All the Staplers Gone?," an entertaining featurette which takes the viewer into a marionette shop to see the making of different kinds of puppets, Art Gallery, and a Discussion Guide.

In Pistachio, a take on Pinocchio which hit the store shelves just last month; Gelato had no children of his own, so one day he decided to carve a little boy out of wood. Imagine Gelato’s surprise when he learned this little boy could walk…and talk…and definitely had a mind of his own! When Pistachio tries to do things his way, he lands in a “whale” of a situation! Will he decide to listen to the wisdom of a loving father in time to save his whole family from becoming fish food? Find out in this all-new adventure with a lesson about the importance of family and learning to listen.

My niece fell in love with this movie, nothing could take her attention away from it and see was singing the songs the rest of the day.  To go along with this DVD there are also a few coloring pages and activity sheets which can be printed out and used with your children and the DVD.

So, today is T-minus one day.  Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 16, 2010, Disney's Princess and the Frog, Blu-Ray and DVD will release.  The other great part about this is that I will be receiving a copy to review and also be able to offer one Blu-Ray and DVD to a lucky reader.  I have another post regarding the release of this awesome movie here, which also includes some printable activity and coloring book sheets for you to print for your children. I have also reviewed The Princess and the Frog Soundtrack here.

Disney is really going all out for the release of this DVD. There will also be a  DISNEY’S THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG TIANA’S COOKBOOK RECIPES FOR KIDS. Copyright © 2009 Disney Enterprises, Inc. Published by Disney Press, an imprint of Disney Book Group. This cookbook will feature the recipe below for Princess Tiana’s Famous Beignets (pronounced Ben-yays) yummy.

INGREDIENTS:
3 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup water
1 egg, beaten
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vegetable oil, for frying
Confectioners’ sugar, for dusting

DIRECTIONS:
1. In a medium bowl, combine 23/4 cups of the flour with the sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg. Whisk everything together.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, water, egg, and vanilla extract. Stir in the flour mixture from Step 1.

3. Use some of the remaining flour to dust your work surface. Place the dough on it and pat it into a large 1/2 -inch-thick square. Dust the top with more flour if it gets sticky. Next, slice the dough into 21/2 -inch squares.

4. Now it’s time to fry the beignets—be sure to ask an adult to help you! Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy saucepan on the stovetop until the temperature reaches 325° on a deep-fat thermometer. Check the temperature every so often while cooking. If it gets too hot, temporarily turn the heat down, or off.

5. Carefully drop 3 dough squares at a time into the hot oil. Fry them for 3 minutes, turn them over, and continue frying for 3 more minutes. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the beignets to a wire rack set atop paper towels to drain. Dust the beignets with confectioners’ sugar, and enjoy!

You might also like to print Tiana’s Fairytale Ingredients, a sheet to help craft your very own story and make your own fairytale with your children.
After receiving the Blu-Ray DVD, I hope to have a review up to give you all the details of what it has to offer.  But, until then I have a giveaway to offer which will hopefully hold you over.

Just wanted to drop a little note to let you know that I will probably not be posting very much this week.  I have quite a few things I need to catch up on and need to take a little time away from the computer.  I will still be doing the drawing for both giveaways that end on 3/13/10 and hope to notify the winner by 3/14/10.

I hope to have a couple reviews and maybe a kid friendly giveaway up next week.  That is if everything gets done this week.  Thanks to everyone for following, I really do appreciate the comments and each and every follower.

    Monday, March 8, 2010

Well, this week proves to be another entertaining week on The View.  Of course, it's the first day after the Oscar's and they have a couple exciting things for Monday's show.

    Monday
On their "Road to the Oscars" follow-up show, Sherri Shepherd will Skype live from her Hollywood Hotel room about her first time as an Oscar Red Carpet Host.  She'll talk about the Ceremony, the Winners, and of course  the Parties.  I'm sure her enthusiasm will be hard to control after such a huge event and opportunity. Another great happening for Monday is their special co-host, Vanessa Williams (ABC's Ugly Betty). I think she has so much class and grace, it will be interesting to see how she fits in with the hosts.

    Tuesday
Tuesday is starting out yummy, with one of the scheduled guests being Andy Garcia. He will be visiting with his daughter Dominik Garcia-Lorido of City Island. Two other scheduled guest for this show is Elisa Stein and Susan Kim (authors Flow: The Cultural Story of Menstruation). Here is a quote describing the book, “A witty look at the history of 'the nuisance'…for women of all ages.  Who hasn’t wondered why we get a period, what women did before the invention of the tampon—let alone the pad.  Flow explains all.” –Body And Soul Magazine

    Wednesday
Forrest Whitaker will be on the show to talk about the new movie he has that is coming out entitled, "Our Family Wedding."  The previews appear to be pretty funny.  It is about an African American young lady who is marrying a Latino young man.  Of course this is an old story in this day and age, but I'm sure Forrest will be able to put a unique spin on it.  Jessie Ventura will also be on the couch with the ladies discussing his book American Conspiracies: Lies, Lies and More Dirty Lies that the Government Tells Us. This sounds like a book that is sure to get the ladies going.

    Thursday
And, for the fith time, Sir Elton John will be making an appearance on The View.  This time will be a little different however; this will be his first time addressing Hot Topics at the table with the ladies.  I have no doubt that he will be able to hold his own. Eric McCromack (cutie from Will & Grace) will be on to discuss his role in the new Lifetime movie "Who is Clark Rockefeller?"  Sort of hard not to imagine him as Will, but it will be interesting to watch him in this movie which airs Saturday, March 13th at 9 pm.

    Friday
This weeks Fashion Friday will have one of my favorite designers join the ladies.  Carolina Herrera will be on discussing fashion with the ladies, who each have their own unique style.

So, it looks like this week will have my DVR smoking once again. This is what keeps me coming back each week, through all of the things going on in our lives, this is a great show that takes you away from it all.  Check it out on ABC daytime.  You can also catch up on past episodes on ABC. I'll be sure to take a little time to enjoy The View.

***I am a participant in a Mom Centrals campaign for ABC Daytime and will receive a tote bag or other The View branded items to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed are my own.

Couldn't you make a perfect night in with this cute pack of Asian inspired serving dishes and place settings. Of course you would need a great meal to go with it, something that won't take too much effort, but delivers great results. Well, this is the perfect set for you.

The great people at Wanchai Ferry through My Blog Spark provided me the opportunity to enjoy a perfect night in for myself. My gift pack included everything pictured here plus a VIP coupon for a free Wanchai Ferry meal kit and a $25 Target gift card. The gift card came in handy for purchasing a couple side dish items to make this a complete meal.

I have to admit, whenever I go to a well known Chinese fast food place, my first item in my two item combo is orange chicken. So, I was a little concerned about whether this would be comparable to my favorite place and live up to my expectation. Here is what Wanchai Ferry has to say about their Orange Chicken:

Wanchai Ferry Orange Chicken has all of the ingredients needed to prepare a great-tasting, complete Chinese meal for 2 in only 14 minutes! With lightly battered chicken breast pieces that stay crispy when prepared and wholesome Asian-style vegetables, like tender broccoli florets, snappy julienne carrots and delicate baby corn, Wanchai Ferry Orange Chicken will make you feel as though you’re enjoying a meal at your favorite Asian restaurant! It even comes with fluffy, tender Jasmine rice and a tangy orange glaze that adds the perfect touch of spicy heat.

We tried the Orange Chicken variety, but you could try any of their four other varieties which include Shrimp Lo Mein, Spicy Garlic Chicken, Sweet & Sour Shrimp and Sweet & Sour Chicken. I have to admit, this took about as long to make as it takes me to park, go into the Chinese place, stand in line and get back in the car to drive home. I was really pleased with how crispy the chicken stayed throughout cooking and eating this dish. The only thing about these meals are they are made for two. To round the meal out we added some miso soup and pot stickers.

Wanchai Ferry meals are now available in the freezer section at Target or your local grocer and you can also grab this $1.50/1 printable coupon. For meal tips to enhance your Wanchai Ferry frozen entrée check out their website here.

This truly did make for a great night in and was enjoyed by the both of us. We will be adding the other varieties to our freezer, for a yummy meal in a pinch. Wanchai Ferry's generosity just seems to be endless because they have also offered the provide the exact same prize pack as above and the $25 Target gift card to one of my lucky readers.

So, if you are one of the parents who didn't get the chance to take your little one to see Disney's The Princess and the Frog, you are in luck because it will be out on DVD & Blu-ray on March 16, 2010.  To give you a little background, The Princess and the Frog follows Princess Tiana who dreams of owning her own restaurant, but unfortunately she lacks the funds for it. When her best friend invites the visiting Prince Naveen to a costume ball where Tiana does the catering, she seems to come one step closer to this dream. But then she meets Prince Naveen, who has been turned into a frog by an evil voodoo wizard. When she kisses him, instead of turning him back, she becomes a frog instead. Together, they have to figure out how to defeat the wizard and become human again.

I'm certain you will think this is worth the wait when you see the Blu-ray release, that is if you didn't see it on the big screen. In celebration of the March 16th release of Disney’s The Princess and The Frog on Blu-ray and DVD, and to also tide you and the little ones with ants in their pants over, here are some activity and coloring sheets.  I hope you enjoy. Click on each image, it will bring you to another page where you click the image again to bring it to full size and print it out.
